Baggage Operations Specialist

Job Purpose

Ensure the highest levels of safety, compliance, and efficiency in baggage operations through continuous oversight, coordination with agencies and contractors, performance monitoring, and support for related projects and operational activities.

Position Accountability Description

Safety and Compliance

1.           Maintain the highest levels of safety and compliance across baggage operations and facilities by strictly adhering to GACA requirements and international best practices, ensuring all procedures and protocols are followed meticulously.

2.           Conduct continuous, round-the-clock inspections, enforcement, and oversight of all baggage operations to ensure strict adherence to safety and operational standards, promptly addressing any issues or non-compliance.

3.           Participate in risk assessments and audits of baggage operations to ensure compliance with safety and risk management standards, documenting findings, recommending improvements, and following up on corrective actions.

4.           Assist in the coordination of emergency response plans and procedures, ensuring readiness for various operational disruptions through regular drills and training sessions.

5.           Ensure seamless coordination with baggage handling contractors to maintain the most efficient baggage operations, guaranteeing system safety, cleanliness, and availability, and resolving any contractor-related issues swiftly.

6.           Coordinate effectively with all government agencies, ensuring smooth inter-agency collaboration to facilitate a safe and efficient baggage operation, and addressing any regulatory or compliance issues.

Maintenance and Inspection

7.           Inspect baggage systems and equipment regularly, arranging for necessary cleaning and maintenance work to uphold high standards of safety and efficiency, and preventing any operational disruptions.

Operational Support and Coordination

8.           Monitor and assist HOF and AQI baggage operations, ensuring smooth and efficient operations, addressing any operational issues promptly, and providing continuous support to meet operational goals and standards.

9.           Support the successful delivery of baggage-related project activities by providing necessary oversight and assistance, ensuring projects are executed on time, within scope, and to the required quality standards.

10.        Identify process improvement opportunities within baggage operations and collaborate with the team to implement changes that enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

11.        Utilize performance data to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes to enhance baggage handling efficiency.

Performance Monitoring and Improvement

12.        Monitor and report on baggage operations performance, tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) related to baggage handling, arrivals, and departures, ensuring targets are met, and identifying areas for improvement.

13.        Prepare regular reports on baggage operations activities, including status updates, identified issues, and corrective actions, for review by management, ensuring reports are comprehensive and submitted on time.

Training and Development

14.        Identify training needs and opportunities for team members, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge required to manage baggage operations effectively.

15.        Assist in organizing and leading training sessions on baggage handling practices and tools to enhance team capabilities.

16.        Pursue continuous learning by seeking feedback, attending training sessions, and staying updated on industry trends, enhancing personal skills and professional growth.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

17.        Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate effective baggage operations.

18.        Communicate baggage operations performance and updates to management and other relevant stakeholders.

19.        Work collaboratively with team members by sharing knowledge, providing support, and actively participating in team activities, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
